OPPO DV-983H 1080p Universal Up-Converting DVD Player with SACD and DVD-Audio
The Oppo DV-983H has performed as advertised. I have a large DVD library and some SACD's. The Oppo out of the box is working as advertised and reviewed. I am happy with my choice and can recommend this product to anyone, who like me has an existing DVD library, wants to add to it, and does not want to start over purchasing or renting Blu-rays.

Mac OS X v10.5.4 Leopard
I lost EVERYTHING on my hard drive because I didn't pay attention to the window during install. One of the first windows that comes up asks how you want to install... One of the options is to erase your hard drive, and then install the new operating system. This is the option selected unless you click the others. Beware, and pay attention.

Garmin Map Update 2009
I have not noticed any difference with the new maps. What really bothered me is that I have two GPS units in my vehicles and the update only works for one unit. Garmin could easily allow two units to be updated, but I guess they want to discourage owning more than one. I am done with Garmin. I will buy something cheaper next time.

OPPO DV-983H 1080p Universal Up-Converting DVD Player with SACD and DVD-Audio
I already have HD DVD and Blu Ray players in my rack but I wanted something that would get the best quality from my collection of SD DVDs. The Toshiba A35 is no slouch at upconverting SDs but I knew I could get better. I tried the new Toshiba XD-E500 for a couple weeks and it did, in fact, beat the A35 for image quality but it had it's own issues.

I finally ordered the Oppo 983 from Amazon a couple weeks ago and have used it for a little over a week. All I can say is; the XDE has now been returned and I've fallen in love with my SD DVDs again, all because of the Oppo 983.

Image quality is, in fact, the best I've ever seen from my SD DVDs. Colors are deeper and more accurate but never bleed, edges are sharp but there is no ringing or edge artifacts and even poor DVDs somehow are clearer and sharper. A good transfer, like Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, is VERY close to HD, with razor-sharp edges and bright colors with absolutely no bleeding. My wife walked into the room while it was playing and

Roxio Creator 2009 - Windows
Mac Popcorn and Toast have been my go-to programs for portable device and disc management. Since my Mac couldn't be upgraded I opted for a Windows Vista PC instead. Since I'm already familiar with Roxio programs Creator 2009 was a natural for me. It has a lot more than what the Mac versions have. Photosuite is fairly advanced for a suite program. I like the panoramic tool which can fit together several photos. It made lugging a tripod around worthwhile. There is layering editing so I can keep or delete changes without having to touch the finished layers. This makes it worth the time to try more complex editing changes.
There is a sound capture tool which I'm finding more and more useful. Its great for making sound bytes and sound effects, especially in an election year. There are also the debates and interviews I recorded from the internet to listen to on my ipod. Now I have no excuse for foregoing my civic duty and studying the candidates positions. Of course I can also transfer

Samsung Multiformat DVD-R/-RW/-R DL/+R/+R DL/+RW/RAM Recorder/4-Head Hi-Fi VCR Combo
Here's my story:
- I finally realize what all that talk about copyright protection is about. I purchased the Samsung DVD-VR375 1080p Up-Converting VHS Combo DVD Recorder to dub my personal VHS tapes to DVD. When I tried to copy my VHS movies (like Heavy Metal which I purchased from a store about a decade ago) to DVD, it stopped a few seconds in saying that it can't dub because of the copy protection signal endcoded on it.

I am now learning that is because I am trying to copy video that has embedded macrovision protection. Taping over the hole on the cassette doesn't help because that hole is only designed to tell your VCR not to allow you to accidentally record over the cassette. This is one of the reasons the Samsung DVD-VR375 1080p Up-Converting VHS Combo DVD unit is useless because all it allows me to copy is my own home movies. From what I am told one needs to incorporate a Digital Video Stabilizer.

To add annoyance to the above problem I also had to contend with the fact that

Crysis Warhead: Windows
The game itself is amazing, just as all the reviewers say. And I am able to play through at stock enthusiast settings (no mods or tweaking) at 1680x1050 DX9 on a C2D E6550 2.33ghz, 8800GT 512MB (AMP OC), 3GB RAM and on Windows Vista, and achieve around 25fps which in the land of Crysis is playable, turn it down to 1440x900 for a smoother game in windowed mode.

However...for anyone experiencing crashes in the game, the display driver stopped responding etc. I think I've figured out what the cause of the problem was.
I checked everything! My PSU (which is a modular powercooler 520W), my Fan speeds, my Overclocked settings, and also v-sync settings and triple buffering but in the end none of the above were the cause. In fact the last two actually made it a whole lot better (less/no visible vertical tearing!)

The DRM issue I'm sure all of you have heard of by now, but I was sort of sceptical at first and thought sure I only really plan on using one PC to play it on for the foreseeable

Pyle 26-inch HD LCD Flat TV with Built-in DVD Player-Pyle 26'' Hi-Definition LCD Flat TV w/Built-In DVD
First of all I would like to say that my wife and I researched this company and seemed to be impressed by its website. It was very hard to find any reviews written on this company and to this date this is the only one I know of. The picture quality is good and the sound is average. On arrival of the tv the remote, power cord, and manual was missing. OverStock really did a incredible job getting the missing parts to us because we couldn't watch a movie on it until we had the remote. Universal remotes are not Pyle friendly. When we received all of the parts the first time we watched a movie the DVD player skipped. Now the disc was slightly scratched but no more than an average DVD. When I ejected the DVD and played through our X Box, the slightly scratched disc played perfectly. Overall the DVD player was horrible. We returned the tv and will never buy or think about buying a PYLE product ever again. Also Pyle did not have any instructions on how to remove the tv base stand which I had to

Gateway M-6752 -Core 2 Duo -1.67GHz - 3GB RAM - 250GB Hard Drive - DL DVD+/- RW - Wireless - Memory Reader - Camera - Vista Home Premium - 15.4 Display - Garnet RED - Refurbished
The M6752 I purchased is an excellent machine for the money. It will be used by my wife for browsing and e-mail, so it is well suited for her. I would prefer a model with a discrete video card rather than the on-board chip. However, for my usage this is a perfect fit.

Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009-STREETS & TRIPS 2009 DVD WIN32 MINI BOX US ONLY DV
As a loyal user of Streets and Trips for several years, I have purchased every version (often by pre-order) since 2001. In short, S&T has several advantages over online alternatives (and a few limitations) that generally make it a worthwhile investment for both business and leisure travelers.

If you already have a previous version of S&T, purchasing this version would primarily be for updated map data and point-of-interest information. The cosmetics are slightly different than S&T 2008, but there are only a few minor feature enhancements. If you are using Google Maps or Mapquest, Streets and Trips offers four distinct advantages over these free alternatives 1) speed 2) control 3) no advertisements 4) offline access (i.e. no Internet required). Personally, I became a big fan of S&T when I began to travel more frequently prior to having 3G mobile broadband access on my notebook. The ability to quickly get directions while on a business trip is very, very helpful.

.............. Why

Sony Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Output
After mourning the death of HD-DVD for a while, which reduced my Toshiba HD-DVD player to upconverting DVD's to 1080P, I decided to buy a Blu-Ray player.
I already had a PS3 and have watched Blu-Ray movies on it. Athough it does a great job, I wanted something that was plug-and-play that would play nicely with my Logitec remote and the rest of my equipment while also fitting in my rack.
I was looking for a player that supports the new lossless HD audio, 1080P/24 video, had HDMI 1.3 and has a ethernet port for upgrading the firmware as well as possible BD Live capability. I also did not want to spend a fortune. I did not need the player to internally decode the audio since my Onkyo 606 receiver has that capability.
I reasearched several players by looking at reviews from both the Home Theater magazines and the AVS Forum before deciding on the S350.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase from Amazon and the performance of the player. I would recommend it if you either have

Philips DVP5140 DVD Player Component
Just received this DVD player. My old KLH DVD player is almost 3 times as thick as the Philips 5140. The remote IR window on the front of the player is very sensitive. The remote must be pointed directly at it. That may be one reason some people have had a hard time programming the player to be region free. It took me two tries to get the region code screen to display. Connecting and setting up the player was a breeze. Video is crisp and bright and audio is clear. Such a treat to be able to watch my UK DVD's now! Thanks H. A. Emet.

Update 9/28/08: From page 22 of the User's Manual - If you hold down the stop button on the remote, the disc tray will open. If you hold down the stop button again, the tray will close.

IBM Thinkpad T40 1.5GHz Pentium M Laptop w/DVD/CDRW (Refurb)
This is my first laptop, and I feel that I made a wonderful choice with this IBM Thinkpad. I really wanted a laptop that ran Windows XP, not Vista. This laptop gave me the operating system that I wanted at a price that was amazing. I was a bit skeptical with a refurbished item, but I took a chance and I'm so glad that I did! (I also picked up the extended warranty, just in case I would need it down the road) My laptop is perfect. It worked right out of the box and I haven't had any issues with it, and I've been using it for over a month. I'm astonished at its speed for a laptop - this thing has power. I've had several programs running at once and I haven't had any problems. Anyone who wants the flexibility of a laptop and not the high price tag should really look into this item - it is outstanding!!! Buying this was money well spent!

Coby Electronics TF-DVD7377 Portable DVD Player-7 TFT Widescreen Portable DVD
I love mine! My Mom bought this for me after we looked at different ones for months. It's great, it comes with alot of features so you can do a bunch of fine tuning so it's just right to see, many others don't have that capability. I've taken it all over, plays CD's audio books you name it. I put my picture discs in I've made in it & everyone can see what I've taken anywheres. Picture is very clear & easy on the eyes & that was a big plus for me as I'm a diabetic & have migraines. It doesn't trigger the headache & some will. The battery doesn't go flat in a short amt of time like some do & the USB port adds even more versatility. I've dragged mine around for almost a year & never a problem. So much fun & worth the money spent too! Great little player!!!

Apple MacBook, 13-inch, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - White - MB403LL/A
I'm a PC/Mac Technician/Administrator by trade. So I have plenty or experience with Windows and Macs. I've used PCs since there were PCs and I always say I'll use the best tool for the job, and time after time the best tool is a Mac. Whether you're an aspiring programmer, designer, artist, musician or simply just want to surf the web, view e-mail, IM friends or and get your job done easily, a Mac will suit your needs.

I bought this model refurbished off the Apple Store. Anything I say about the computer's Operating System (OS X) usually applies equally to other Macintosh models.

First the Hardware:
For a consumer machine it's surprisingly solid and the weight feels good. The built in camera (standard on Mac laptops and iMacs) is pretty decent as far as web cams go. After months of heavy use the hinges are still snug and the screen is just as bright. 2GB will take care of most people's needs.
Also, and this is very important, since this is an Intel based machine you can install windows

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred - Minibox
I was hoping to upgrade from version 9 to 10. However, this version requires a Visual C++ Runtime file to be installed first, and it is NOT compatible with 64-bit Vista. The application prompts you if you want to continue anyway, for some unknown reason. Why? What's the point? It doesn't complete the install even you click Yes. NONE of their documentation should claim that this runs on Vista when it only runs on SOME versions of Vista.

The tech support is a long-distance phone number that's only available until 7 PM Eastern, and Customer Service is only available until 6. (And every tech support call after the first one is not only long distance, but $20 as well.)

Nuance has clearly lost interest in both the "customer" and providing any "service." And for what this product costs, and what it used to be, that's a shame.

Samsung Blu-ray High-Definition Disc Player with 1080p Output
I am not an expert, but a guy that loves movies, and especially Blu-ray movies. The reliability, picture quality, and speed of the Samsung 1500 is impressive. I own a PS3, a Samsung 1400, and a Sony BDP-S300. However, I am in love with my Sammy 1500. I have tried over 50 of my Blu-ray movies and they all paly perfectly. The load times are significantly reduced when compared to the 1400 and the Sony S300. I paid $350 for my Samsung 1500 player, and was excited about the price. Now Amazon is selling it for $260...A great deal!

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred - Minibox
What a mistake! I have recently purchased what I thought was an upgrade for Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 9.0 by responding directly to an upgrade announcement. What I received was a mess in the form of Dragon Preferred 10.

The company shipped software with a fatal flaw. The software would not load directly from the CD. Nuance knew this, but shipped anyway.

They compounded the problem by making it very difficult to find out how to make the program work. Could have included instructions, but NO! Instead offered interesting alternatives: I could pay to talk to a tech service rep or I could pay to send an e-mail. Oh, but I can only send you an e-mail if I go through multiple steps of creating "a user ID."

They must be kidding! This bears no resemblance to customer service.

By spending significant time on their website, I finally found the buried instructions on how to bootleg the software. In fact they had to post two alternative in case their first "fix" didn't work! If I would
