I have only had it for one week, but I love this camera so far. The learning curve has been incredibly fast, and I'm posting a short video I shot today with this camera as a sample of what I've filmed with the Panasonic HPX170.
I love the wide-angle lens. I've never worked with a camera with a lens like this, and so I'm quickly learning about how to use depth of field in some shots.
I love the easy-to-change record settings. It records in about 20 different modes, everything from HD 1080i-60i to DVC Pro 50 to plain DV. I love that it has auto-focus and manual focus (and iris) options.
I like how easy it has been to upload my videos to Final Cut Pro, which I also have only owned for about a week.
Altogether, I have no complaints with this camera after one week's usage. I do wish that additional P2 Cards weren't so expensive.

I am surprised at the negative reviews of the BDP-S350. I purchased mine just last week and have had no problems: quick start times, quiet operation, excellent picture quality.
I've determined that most of the negatives are coming from users who are not properly setting up the player before use. NOTE: The default setting on this unit is "auto," meaning that it will set the picture quality to match the disc. So, if you put in a standard DVD it is going to play it at 480p. Change the picture setting to 1080p for all playback and you are guaranteed automatic upscaling for SD DVDs and 1080p for Blu-Ray discs. And the upscaling on this unit is terrific -- your standard def dics wil look great.
Also, several negatives are coming from people who aren't playing the unit through a 1080p HDTV. Of course the picture isn't going to look better than your SD DVD in that situation. Therefore, don't buy this unit it you don't have a 1080p HDTV -- you are wasting your money. And take the time to properly

I recieved the unit in great condition. When I hooked it up, the picture was great, but there is no audio coming from the speakers... at all. I called Panasonic's help center and we determined that the audio output was completely shot. Therefore I have to drive 2 hours to have it looked at/repaired at my own expense. I didn't expect a perfect refurb, but I did expect it to at least WORK when I got it. This is the last time I order any refurb from Overstock.com.

This was our 3rd attempt to find a dvd recorder/VCR that also has a digital tuner. We returned an LG and a Panasonic (which was the worst piece of equipment my husband and I have ever seen). I almost never return anything, but apparently nobody has worked the bugs out of this technology.
The JVC lasted 3 weeks before we took it back, since we got a fairly clear picture and it recorded well onto VHS tapes and DVD. The problem was that it kept locking up and I would have to unplug it so it could reboot. Anytime you tried to change channels too quickly or tried to watch a DVD it didn't like, it would lock up. It wouldn't let me turn it off with the remote or at the unit, so I'd have to unplug it. I'm not sure if it was just that particular unit, or a software problem in all JVC units, but it was frustrating enough that we went back to our old DVD player that doesn't have a digital tuner.

The recorder is one of the newer ones and would otherwise be a great one, but its fatal flaw is built-in anti-copying technology that makes it so you're unable to record many TV programs that are broadcast with a certain signal. I attempted to record several episodes of Breaking Bad last night, but it only recorded two second snippets.
As it turned out, this DVR comes with a copyright protection software that shuts down the recording function if you record the wrong program. It does not give you the freedom of choice to make up your own mind as to whether your recording constitutes fair use (recording television in order to watch privately later) or duplication for showing to the public. It just imposes the choice of the TV program's producers on you.
I kept my receipt, so I'll be returning this recorder soon and getting one by a different company that trusts ME to make the decision about what I record and how I use it. If I get caught violating copyright, it is on me, not Philli

Were it not for my current problem, I would rate this TV a 4 or 5. I did exhaustive research on LCD televisions and made repeated trips to stores to compare picture quality and features. I gravitated to this particular set for its small footprint (bezel) around the screen, the exceptional picture quality and the Sony name. I have always known Sony TVs to be high quality and reliable........until now.
I babied this puppy on delivery, as if it were fine crystal. It sits on top of a cabinet, free-standing, with plenty of ventilation in a large room. For 23 days it worked great. Then a powerful windstorm knocked out power in NE Ohio and took down cable across the region. The following day I had the TV on throughout the day as I waited for cable to be restored. Late in the afternoon I noticed vertical lines across the screen instead of simply a blank screen.
The set was totally unresponsive via remote or otherwise. It didn't even work with my Sony DVD player --just random vertical

Just got my very own last week. The picture is excellent, sound is good (though I use my surround sound), sleek look and perfect color! Can't say enough about the picture quality. I've seen comparative models at the store and they're inferior in color quality. I have Wii, PS3, DVD, hooked up to it and they all look very crisp and clear, especially the PS3 (blu-ray)!

First things first: I did not purchase this TV (yet). Its been sitting in my cart and before I pressed that buy button I thought I'd see if there was any feedback from the avsforum community.
Apart from the glorious reviews about the picture quality on this TV, I read something else that is bothering me quite a bit. It seems that more than a few people (people who actually own this TV) are finding that several set-top boxes from Dish network, Comcast (and some models of Tivo) behave erratically due to IR signals coming out of this TV. This is especially true when the TV is turned ON and the consensus seems to be that the panel backlight is emitting IR signals causing the havoc. It seems that Samsung is aware of the problem and hopefully they fix it soon. I am posting this here since I believe this is important information for people like me who are(were) on the verge of buying this set. Also Amazon.com adds greater visibility.

I decided on the new Toshiba XV545U after extensive research, mainly for the overall design, combination of features and SRT technology.
Delivery Service: I ordered direct from Amazon.com and the TV arrived the day after I placed the order (amazing); the "white glove" service was great - the guys handled it with care and brought it straight into the room where I set it up. Came in perfect condition.
Ease of Set-up: I turned it on right out of the box with the default settings (most settings default to "auto") and the picture is great - the new AutoView feature takes care of most adjustments for you, so it is very simple to get up and going.
Picture Quality: I have the TV hooked to a FiOS HD DVR box and Sony 350 BlueRay player via HDMI, and a Wii via Component Cable. So far, the picture looks fantastic overall. HDTV quality is excellent and BlueRay is awesome as expected. However, SRT is the real differentiator, as standard DTV signals look very good; have not tried a standard DVD

The Oppo DV-983H has performed as advertised. I have a large DVD library and some SACD's. The Oppo out of the box is working as advertised and reviewed. I am happy with my choice and can recommend this product to anyone, who like me has an existing DVD library, wants to add to it, and does not want to start over purchasing or renting Blu-rays.

I bought this KDL-40W4100 a few weeks ago. It looks awesome when using HDMI inputs. But of course looks even worse than a regular TV when viewing non-HD sources (as with any HDTV). My two real complaints are:
there are only 2 audio outputs from the TV: optical digital and stereo RCA-jacks. This will only support 2 external speakers (not center or surround sound). Bummer, as the TV's tiny speakers are quite lame.
And problem #2 is: the base stand that came with the TV is not level! Ridiculous! This precision-engineered widescreen HDTV now sits 1/4" higher on one side because the stand isn't level! So now I have to put a pad of Post-It notes under the left side.
Overall, this is a nice TV, but I'm still disappointed.

I recently bought the SR706 receiver from ABT. I wanted to get it from amazon, but I was a bit suspect with the two reviews so far. I had planned to get the 705, but with this new model out and the upgrade to 4 HDMI's in, I couldn't pass it up. I also purchased the KEF 1005.2 speaker set, which is a 5.1 set-up. All I can say is WOW. This receiver is absolutely amazing. The sound is crisp when I listen to music and enveloping when watching a movie. The mic set-up worked flawlessly, although i did not run it for two weeks because my speaker stands were on back order, and I wanted to wait until I had the speakers mounted where I wanted them. The receiver runs a bit warm, but its nothing warmer than my previous denon receiver. Highly recommend.

The XDE-500 DVD player from Toshiba is a marked improvement in playback quality of standard DVDs. I already have HD DVD and Blu Ray players in my rack but I wanted something that would get the best quality from my collection of SD DVDs. The Toshiba A35 is no slouch at upconverting SDs but I knew I could get better. I tried the new Toshiba XD-E500 for a couple weeks and it did, in fact, beat the A35 for image quality but it had it's own issues.
I finally ordered the Oppo 983 from Amazon a couple weeks ago and have used it for a little over a week. All I can say is; the XDE has now been returned and I've fallen in love with my SD DVDs again, all because of the Oppo 983.
Image quality is, in fact, the best I've ever seen from my SD DVDs. Colors are deeper and more accurate but never bleed, edges are sharp but there is no ringing or edge artifacts and even poor DVDs somehow are clearer and sharper. A good transfer, like Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, is VERY close to HD, with razor-sharp edges and bright colors with absolutely no bleeding. My wife walked into the room while it was playing and

My Sony STR-DE945 went south the other day. I was debating between replacing it with the Sony STR-DG720 and the Onkyo TX-SR606. After reading all the reviews here, I decided to give the Onkyo a shot. What a great decision I made. The sound out of it is so much better than the Sony I had. I had it ran for 4 hours (2 CDs and 1 movie)continuously, and it was warm but not "hot" (definitely not warmer than my Sony STR-DE945).

- I finally realize what all that talk about copyright protection is about. I purchased the Samsung DVD-VR375 1080p Up-Converting VHS Combo DVD Recorder to dub my personal VHS tapes to DVD. When I tried to copy my VHS movies (like Heavy Metal which I purchased from a store about a decade ago) to DVD, it stopped a few seconds in saying that it can't dub because of the copy protection signal endcoded on it.
I am now learning that is because I am trying to copy video that has embedded macrovision protection. Taping over the hole on the cassette doesn't help because that hole is only designed to tell your VCR not to allow you to accidentally record over the cassette. This is one of the reasons the Samsung DVD-VR375 1080p Up-Converting VHS Combo DVD unit is useless because all it allows me to copy is my own home movies. From what I am told one needs to incorporate a Digital Video Stabilizer.
To add annoyance to the above problem I also had to contend with the fact that

As others have noted, the picture is excellent for DVD. The Color, Contrast, Sharpness enhancements are a mixed bag; I prefer the setting off.
My disappointment is that the player powers off after 20 minutes when it is not being used - that's fine to save electricity and all but the problem is, it doesn't resume play where I last stopped.

After mourning the death of HD-DVD for a while, which reduced my Toshiba HD-DVD player to upconverting DVD's to 1080P, I decided to buy a Blu-Ray player.
I already had a PS3 and have watched Blu-Ray movies on it. Athough it does a great job, I wanted something that was plug-and-play that would play nicely with my Logitec remote and the rest of my equipment while also fitting in my rack.
I was looking for a player that supports the new lossless HD audio, 1080P/24 video, had HDMI 1.3 and has a ethernet port for upgrading the firmware as well as possible BD Live capability. I also did not want to spend a fortune. I did not need the player to internally decode the audio since my Onkyo 606 receiver has that capability.
I reasearched several players by looking at reviews from both the Home Theater magazines and the AVS Forum before deciding on the S350.
Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase from Amazon and the performance of the player. I would recommend it if you either have

I bought this receiver 2 weeks ago. So far, I absolutely love it. I have connected it to a Panasonic mdp-bd30 blu-ray player and a Samsung LN46A650 46" LCD TV, through HDMI. Setup was very easy, with an HDMI cable comming from my satellite box and another from the Blu-Ray box, and then a single cable going from the receiver to my TV. I set the Blu-Ray player to send the audio information in bitstream to the receiver, and the receiver so far has perfectly played all the audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby Digital 5.1 The sound has been truly amazing, with the Polk 5.1 speaker system I also bought from Amazon. My family and I have watched some high-energy movies, such as "300" and "Apocalypto" and the sound has been truly exhilarating. Even football games have been revolutionary, as the 5.1 separation creates a game-changing experience when compared to watching on a standard TV or even with a two-channel stereo.
