NCAA Football 09: Xbox 360
I am a longtime fan of the EA college football series. I played since the first one back on PS2. It was one of my favorite games and I've probably been through 30 years of dynasties. I was even painted up for a cameo in NCAA 07. That said, the current incarnation makes me sick to my stomach. The pass defense is beyond terrible. The defense never really does anything. They just stand there. That means that even the second string QB from 1AA Nowhere can have a 90% completion percentage on you. I improved the Virginia Tech defense over the course of three seasons to an overall rating of 99 and it didn't matter. A mediocre Cal team still carved me up for 400 passing yards and 40-some points. The game does look pretty and my beloved recruiting system is better than ever, but that doesn't overcome the helpless feeling I have everytime I'm on defense. I'd be better off going and making myself a sandwich until my offense is back on the field. Of course, when that does happen, I have

NCAA Football 09: Xbox 360
This is what happens when lack of competition meets overextension: EA Sports has so many games it no longer cares about their quality, and it has competition in so few areas that it doesn't need to.

While NCAA 09 can be fun at times, it is so full of obvious bugs and strategy flaws that I would be surprised if it actually went through a QA process and was changed at all. If you look on pretty much any 360-related forum, you'll find a huge list. Here's an example of what you'll see:

-- The clock doesn't always run during a kickoff return. That's kind of a big deal when there isn't much time left.
-- If you press a button at the wrong time after an extra point, you'll actually end up selecting your kickoff or return formation and you won't know what you picked.
-- Receivers can run out of bounds for any length of time, come back in and catch the ball without penalty.
-- Yardage announced over the stadium PA rarely matches the pop-up box and in-game stats.
-- When a penalty occurs on a

NCAA Football 09: Xbox 360
For a third straight year the idiots at EA have once again failed to produce a worthwile college football game. This year the biggest issue is that defense has been left entirely out of the game. The defensive secondary and the defensive line are basically a nonfactor in the game. Want to sack the quarterback? You're wasting your time. Defensive lines never get within five yards of any quarterback, no matter how awful the offensive line might be. There are two reasons for this: receivers run their routes impossibly fast, covering twenty yards in the blink of an eye, and also because it is impossible for your defensive lineman to get off their blocks. It literally is like running into a brick wall. No matter how much you try to get off the block the offensive lineman just grabs and holds on and won't let you move. Want to pick off a pass? Don't bother. The entire strategy for the secondary is to stand and watch a receiver catch the ball and then try to play catch up. But if once in a blue

NCAA Football 09: Xbox 360
I love football, been a fan for 20 years. I've played Madden and College football for over a decade so I know how its supposed to look and play. First off NCAA '09 looks great and moves great. The animation is top-notch, I'm always noticing little touches, beautiful for most part. The college team at EA surpasses even Madden when it comes to animation. But none of that matters unfortunately . This game is wholly unbalanced. Glitches abound, graphical annoyances. Nothing comes together as it should. EA doesn't seem to think there are any defensive battles in college football! There is no defense in this game. If the CPU doesn't advance the ball and is forced to punt it seems as if it is only that way because the CPU chooses it to be. The plays that the CPU chooses are just stupid. Run on first down with a loss of yardage, second down run for a loss, only to have their QB throw to a wide open receiver for a first down. Last years version was far from perfect, but I thought

The games is only Ok, there is absolutely no defense in the game whatsoever as it is not surprising to consistently put up 60 points a game no matter who you play, even on the hardest difficulty.

This game is just too buggy to recommend. It has egregious functional and balance issues that make this game too frustrating to play.

* Custom AI Sliders do not function correctly. The CPU sliders do nothing. Human sliders affect both CPU and human.
* Online dynasty mode sometimes simulates games that have been played by humans. A number of people have reported trouble connecting to EA's servers.
* Super-sim simulates an unrealistic number of plays when fast-forwarding through a game, and produces lopsided final scores.
* Players able to return most kick offs and punts for large gains. Average kick off return is to the 35-45 yard line.
* Suction blocking - player cannot release off their blocks nor get by the offensive line without being knocked down or pushed in the back.
* Defenders moving full speed in one direction will turn around and intercept balls thrown well behind them.
* The new player speed model is causing huge problems with pursuit angles by CPU-controlled players. This skews

NCAA Football 09: Xbox 360
First of all, I have been an EA sports gamer for a while now... ever since Madden and NCAA football has been developed. If you look over my past reviews I have written, you will see that I don't hold my opinion back any in regards to hammering a game title. Personally, I feel EA in regards to XBOX360 has gotten cheap and lacked quality over the years. So read this review taking that into account.

As for this game, I have to say, "ABOUT TIME!" EA's NCAA football is finely getting back to the level of its glory days in regards to quality and new inventive game options. For example, there is a new bluff option in the game. Usually when you pick a play and your team is on the field, you want to check what that play looks like before you snap the ball. The problem with doing that is the other team knows what you are calling right before you snap. The new bluff feature allows you to show multiple bluff plays on the field - both runs and passes. You can show multiple bluff plays and throw in

NCAA Football 09: Xbox 360
Ok I was all hyped up to get this game and told myself buy it when the price goes down. I couldn't wait!! I got and rushed home to play it and upon playing I was awwed by the stunning graphics on both HD and regular TV's. The game play was just phenominal, the online dynasty is what I've been waitng for, etc. etc. I could go on but let's keep it short and simple. So why the 4 star rating if this game is so awsome? There is alot of repetative things again like commentary I mean c'mon I get tired of hearing Lee Corso ramble on and on about the same things I have been hearing for the last 5 years (Gooo with the option!) I mean c'mon change it up a little bit for pete's sake... Heck for our sake!

NCAA Football 09: Xbox 360
I picked this game up to replace last year's version, and as a huge fan of college football I was pleased to see some neat additions (such as icing the kicker) that became a big part of the lexicon during last year's crazy season.

If you've played any of the games in the NCAA series, you know what to expect. Some new features for this year's version include "celebrating with the mascot" where you can run over to the mascot after running a touchdown and perform an animated celebration (mascot worshiping you/dancing around/etc.). The sideline players/cheerleaders/coaches actually exist this year, unlike in NCAA 08 when they mysteriously weren't on the sidelines during a game. You'll see cheerleaders dancing, players on the sidelines getting out of your way, etc. so the stadium atmosphere is much more alive than it was in last year's version.

Some new gameplay options are tweaks to the way running plays work. No longer can you just click 'go' and push forward, you can now find and exploit
