Don't believe the hype; this game is a huge letdown. The box claims "DirectX 10" compatible, but DX 10 won't even be supported for months. End game PvP that was one of the major selling points of the game is not even included, player cities are broken, high level PvE content is scarce, stats are broken, gear offers no benefits and all looks the same as you level, gold sellers are already plaguing the game, and they didn't mention that voice acting completely stops after level 20. The developers are not patching anything important after 3 weeks and make minimal effort to communicate with the customers. There are so many bugs, broken quests and content that was promised and not delivered that it's just depressing.
On the positive side the music is good, and the graphics are good. Too bad that doesn't make a game fun.

So I wasted 50 bucks on this game, that was touted to be "revolutionary". They can't even get their updater working properly. You waste an hour and a half installing the game, then run the updater... I'm now past 72 hours of installing updates, and the server is officially down for MORE updates, which I'm not even past 50% of the original ones. You can not get technical support, if you go to the forums you're told by the most immature community I've ever seen that you're completely wrong and the updater works just great, (of course there's no actual suggestions on how to fix it), and how dare anyone criticize the game.
FunCom kept this game in beta for almost 3 years, it should have stayed there.

I paid for a preorder and then $5 to download the client early and do the free preview. So the day comes to start playing the game and I cannot download the patch. So I go to the store to pick up my copy and install from the disks, same problem, the patch is a no go. So I go to the website expecting a little technical support, however none of the topics really covered my issue (which is the 620 gig patch getting to between 20 and 150 gigs and then no longer downloading at all). So I check the main forums and there are quite a few people there having the same issue, but there is no post from any sort of official source about how to resolve the issue. I disable my virus protection, open all the ports on my router, download updates, plug the connection directly to the computer, nothing works. I e-mail billing but by the time anybody gets back to me 6 days of my 10 day preview have gone by. I ask for some form of refund and they tell me they can't do that. Finally after two or three

no dx10 yet, maybe in a few months, siege battles do not work/exist, everything is buggy, there is no skill as damage is based on items/gold farming. What you can afford determines your damage. There are constant spams from gold farmers. Very little to do. Low population so there are few people to do it with.
1-20 is great, awesome, spectacular, after that the game is a joke

The game is great, up untill lvl 40, then classes become gimpped. There is no end game content, and each patch breaks the game even more.
The combo system is great, PvP could be fun, but the class imbalance ruins it (I mean, the tank class with the most hp and armor should not be one shotting other soldier classes, or even squishies for that matter), unless your a guardion or a healer, PvP is one sided.
The client has been riddled with issues like memory leaks and instability. Don't expect to see the wonderful grafixs unless you have a really good computer. Although advertised with DX10, the game currently only works on DX9, and has issues with SLi set up cards, and ATI cards. after 40, the story ends, and the grind begines.

Age of Conan isn't exactly a 'bad' game, but it certainly does not live up to the hype which surrounded it before the release. There are bugs, lack of content, balance issues and patches that often do not make sense.
Worth getting the game if you are looking for something a bit different and don't mind waiting months or even years for a fully 'polished' version.

The funny thing about expectations is just how much it can ruin or promote a game. As an example, I was one of those annoying people who ended up not liking Fable as much as I'd hope to (and complained about it to deaf ears) because I had followed it from its first announcement to its eventual birth. In the same way, I have followed Age of Conan far longer than I should have. Four years. Longer than most engagements.
Well, after finally "marrying" Age of Conan (and buying it a "fancy" ring by not only purchasing it, but dropping $90 on its shinier Collector's Edition), I can understand why the divorce rate in America is so high. It all falls back to expectations. For me, things started out wonderfully. We had our honeymoon in Tortage and for the first weekend or so, I was in complete heaven. The first twenty levels of the game are perfectly plotted and staged, with wonderment occuring around every bend. The story that plays out is small and self-contained but feels epic and truly

Most people who give this game high reviews haven't played it past level 20. The beginning island is fun and done well, as it was originally suppose to been a single player game and that is what the beginning island is all about. Not long after you leave the island you begin to realize the game is incomplete and out of balance mathematically. What I mean is you only travel back and forth mainly between 3 areas. Then you then realize your armor stats, most skills you have are uselessly weak or broken. Armor pretty much all looks the same and only stat that means anything at all is the defense stat the rest of stats are useless. For example like .01 to slashing damage when you are doing 80 damage per swing. Game is a hyped up rip off full of lies by Funcom, wait and buy WarHammer if you are looking for a good new MMO.

The game is a pile of absolute rubbish, and the developers are working hard to set it on fire as well. Frequently unplayable, always unbalanced, and rarely fun past level 40 or so.

Tried to enjoy game for a month+, without success. Initial starting area is great, but then the grind from 25+ begins. Tried 3 different classes, leveling to 55, 43 & 37. Each had broken problems. PvP is a joke. Serves little purpose. Just random ganking. At least in other games you have different factions that are suppose to be your enemies... Oh, except for end game, which is a broken disaster. Won't even bother with discussing how broken crafting is. Another thing. Don't roll a female tank character, since the broken game mechanics will slow down your DPS by as much as 20%. This is still not fixed. Amazing. This game was rushed to market & should have NOT left beta.

I purchased Age of Conan two days after its official launch. I played it for the duration of the initial free 30 day subscription you receive when you purchase the game.
* Be wary of reviews that only mention the area designed for new players, or extrapolate upon very minor features such as "character creation". These things, while strong in this game, are going to account for but a tiny part of your overall experience. My review focuses on aspects of the game that will affect your enjoyment from day one right on through day thirty - namely stability, content, and customer service. *
To start, I'll focus on the stability and quality of the application itself: Age of Conan is extremely unstable, being plagued by bugs that will crash your system for a variety of reasons. The game client has a lingering memory leak that has continued to wax and wane in prevalence since launch. As of the writing of this review, the stability of the client is still very poor and the memory leak is still very

It's tough to sort through the various folks on both sides of the AOC fanboy vs. hater crowds, but here's my take after having played the first month and then quit. In a nutshell, AOC is like a St. Bernard puppy- it's probably going to grow up into something awesome, but right now it spends most of its time falling over and leaving messes on the carpet
The good
1) The graphics require serious horsepower, but they do look good. The general feel works well for the mythos- a bit dark and dreary
2) The sounds and music are well done
3) The classes and combat have some nice ideas behind them- directional healing, combo moves, active shielding, etc. Combat is not simple button mashing
4) The initial storyline in Tortage is very well fleshed out with the nighttime quests, decent voice acting and the rest.
5) Writing- the quest dialogs are generally nicely done and some of the quest lines are quite funny. (Check out the early "What happened to my friend" quest in Khemi)

Great Graphics & Good Action!
Team Play on the other hand is... Okay. The Lack of Voip (Voice Over Internet) makes team play a little on the weak side. Some people don't like the zoning where you can have multiple instances of the same area which came it tough to find friends sometimes but I don't mind that so much. When your in a guild or clan you can make up for this with programs like TeamSpeak or Ventrillo.
Once you get past the initial low level areas there is a lot less Voiced RP content. I kinda felt let down when I got the level 20+ areas and there were no more voiced characters.

I enjoyed the first part of this game up until about level 30. Then I started to see things I could have ignored if there hadn't been so many of them.
Cons:
- Small doors that zone you to the next area that look like other doors that don't do anything. I dont know if there's only a few zones but it seemed that way.
- no generally fun encounters. All I found were just cookie cutter creatures moreso than other mmo's. Everything just runs up to you and starts swinging and altering it's defensive directions in a totally predictable manner. Both dungeons I found just had 1 type of creature in each of them, and that was it. No named encounters or strange things. The most unique thing an enemy did was not change it's defensive direction in a predictable manner. They have a lot of potential with the active combat and defensive directions but didn't take advantage of it.
- Annoying map that doesn't show other group members until you're right next to them. They should have separated the command

This is the worst MMO ever made. It is very heavily instanced because it is primarily an Xbox 360 game. Anything they add in the future will always come back to if it will work on the 360. This is not a real MMORPG.

It has great graphics, and the combat system seems unique and like it might take skill - at first.
But as you get into the game, you find that many things are actually completely broken, and other things just aren't well thought out at all. If you like to gank people, you might like this game, because the combat system is setup in a way that makes ganking extremely easy.
All damage is AoE damage, which makes combat sloppy. Unless you are grouped with someone, you damage them. Thus, it is near impossible for people to team up against a ganker without making a formal group, because if you attack the ganker, you also attack the guy who is getting ganked and would be your temporary help at dealing with the guy. There are no single target spells that all you to control your damage. AoE is great a good bit of the time, but in some situations it downright is awful and crowd control and other things which require working together are non-existant. If you are a healer, you do not have

As others mentioned this is a very pretty game, when your able to run it. This game was obviously a rushed release to beat WOW's new release. If your systems specs does not include a Nvidia 8800 series card you are looking at getting 10-15 FPS. Not to mention that the Tech support are so busy chasing down bugs that they will not respond to any ingame help or out of game emails. Do yourself a favor look at their Tech forums before getting the game and see if its worth your time.
