Nicely Surpised!

The dvd player arrived in two days after I placed the order, so I opened the box to check that everything was proper and found what looks like a new player. Curiosity got the better of me so I had to give it a try. Wow! The sights and sounds were very good. It is very easy to use and now I want one. I purchased this as a Christmas gift for a frequent flier who has a 30g Ipod. I poured over the various models on Overstock and read the reviews here and on other online forums. The DCP850 is a past model that supports older model Ipods. Throughout my research I found mostly positive reviews for the Philips DVD. I have purchased refurbished name brand items from Overstock before and never had a issue, however what I did glean from the reviews was that most users consider portable dvds as a disposable item with a self life of one or two years. For that reason I chose the replacement plan.

good value for your bucks!

great value for your bucks! got the player in short time from ordering and all parts were there and everything worked. the outside cover has a slight scratch but other than that it plays all region of dvd's. and since I travel a bit this comes in handy. It is also great for my ipod movies which can get a bit hard on the eyeballs when watching on the ipod screen. overall great with no reservations

Pleasantly surprised

This came very quickly and was very easy to set up. It has the ability to play from the iPod, but I haven't used this feature yet. I have played DVD movies and they are very easy to play. Nice that a remote control comes with it, though I don't need to use it often. The movies play well and the speakers have plenty of sound, easy to hear! The pictures are clear and steady, no flickering or fading. If you leave it on, but not playing, the battery will be dead at the end of the day. (duh! -- I forgot!) It will play while plugged in, but won't charge till you turn it off. I just plug it in at night, and it will run many hours. It's lightweight and fits nicely in the niche on the top of my treadmill, so I can watch movies or programs while working out. I use my earphones for this and the sound through them is great! (I got the Augen earphones from Overstock, and they are the most comfy with the best sound -- no more sore ears from extended use!!). The other thing that is nice about this DVD  more

Great Buy!

This was perfect portabel DVD player for us! We watch both Greek and American movies on it when we travel! The picture quality is very good and the price for it was great!

remote doesn't work

I need this machine because i travel to asia a lot, and get a lot dvd that are not region 1 coded, it works fine with that, except the remote doesn't work when i got my player, i tried not to buy and refurbished electronics, but willing to try one more time, however it again came with something wrong.

Just what we needed!

We bought this DVD player for our trip to Russia to adopt our son. We wanted to be able to play American DVDs for our first 2 children as well as Russian ones for our new child. This DVD player plays both types of DVD's, has a great picture and was just what we needed for such a long trip.

I'm very happy with this purchase

I've been using a borrowed, smaller portable, non-region free Philips DVD player and was satisfied with it, except for the fact that it wouldn't play some of the movies I wanted to watch. (I live in the Caribbean and we have movies from Europe as well as North America.) This little machine is great. Easy to use. Great picture and sound quality, etc. There's a remote control that pops out and stores away easily, and it can be used with an iPod and SD card. It also came with a car charger. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Philips Portable DVD player

Arrived well packaged in a reasonably short time. The item was refurbished and was therefore, disturbing to us that we found a loose screw in the mechanism. We contacted customer service and they reassured us that it was probably of no consequence. The DVD player has not in any way malfunctioned so far but the loose screw remains a concern. The seller assured us that they made a note of it and they accordingly will cover it by warranty should anything malfunction.
In summary, a very good "buy" experience. Would "buy" again from this seller.

Ipod Video Player

Nice size screen, works great, and comes with adapters for car and home. Did take me a while to figure out how to set up the iPod to play on the screen but the directions do help once I figured out where to go on the iPod itself. Great product.

portable dvd player and ipod docking station

i love the idea of this product but i am going to have to send it back, because it doean't work. it will play about twenty minutes of a dvd then stop. i was not pleased with that,

Ipod video

First one I ordered did not work, but returned it and the replacement is excellent! Simple to use only negative would be lack of controls on unit, only controls are on the remote. Great picture quality. Ipod video works great just make sure that you do not have one of the new generation Ipods as they will not work. Made for fifth generation ipod video. Customer service with Overstock is awesome, I recieved my replacement immediately and it works great!

jericho56 - dvd player

Good machine for playing dvd, cd and material from
my I-prod. I love the larger screen, watching movies on my I-prod was ok, but the ten inch screen is excellent.

Great for travelling

I got an I-Pod Classic for Christmas and this is a perfect travel companion for it. The I-Pod docks right inside its own compartment and the audio plays through the speaker . If I had a complaint it would be that the I-Pod picture doesn't transfer to the DVD player screen as I hoped it would. Maybe future models will rectify this. Overall, though, it is a good product for the money.

Bad News

Bought Product - was never told it was refurbished! Product was scratched and would not operate at all! Packaging and shipment packaging was primative. WhenI went to return, it took several days to process the paperwork so I could send it back. They could not issue the return info. to me on the phone. Be cautious!

A good portable that charges ipods

The portable DVD player is OK. It's easy to use and portable. Has a good picture quality and is a pretty popular with our daughter for playing and charging her ipod.
The service I received from Overstock was great. The first unit we received had a habit of sticking so when we called Overstock they made an exchange extremely easy and quick. I'll shop here again.

it was alright i really enjoyed it in fact just the only problem i had was that it was scrathed when i recived it and so thats why i was upset with it.

Very Happy

When I recieved this DVD player I thought at first glance that it was new. I noticed that I purchased a refurbished DVD player. What a great deal, can not even tell the difference between new and refurbished. Love this product! Very happy in florida

Works as advertised

I have read previous review from people who had problems with this and their IPOD and I have not experience any of this. It works just like its suppose to and I love it. The 8.5 inch screen is big and bright and even has a brightness control on the player. The remote is easy to use and it has a nice small form factor. I watch alot of divx programming and this plays it with no problems. I am glad I bought this.
