Deleting all of the negative reviews will not save this game. The setting is boring, the game play is ok. I wonder if they managed to fix all of the bugs. But i don't care to find out as i stopped playing it after lvl 20 as every single map looks the same and the game kept randomly crashing.

UNREAL was one of these games that mark an era. Huge, gorgeous scenery, atmospheric and fast - there was nothing like it for many years. When UNREAL II: THE AWAKENING came out I could not wait to get my hands on it - only to be hugely disappointed. The new game had been graphically improved yet the UNREAL character was replaced by a bland and generic FPS feeling.
The DIABLO series enjoyed a similar, well deserved, success. HELLGATE: LONDON was released by the creators of DIABLO - leaving a similar disappointing aftertaste I am afraid.
Don't get me wrong, this is a good game. However, disappointment is inevitable for a game that tries to do everything: provide a 40-hour single-player FPS; double as an action-cRPG; and serve as a subscription-MMORPG (with at least two pay-grade classes: First & Standard) at the same time. Trying to please everybody, well, ends up falling short. They did put in a solid effort; however, in the end, both FPS and action-RPG fans will find the game wanting.

Game works ok since last patch, however news is that the company that wrote the game layed off most of the staff and is looking for new financing. Not a good sign. They are no longer accepting new customer accounts for bonus content, and those who already signed up and were paying are no longer being charged. Just a quick heads up before you buy a game that may not have a server to play on. Save your cash for now until they figure it out!!! 07-28-08.

I have been playing PC games for over 20 years now, and this is quite honestly one of the most disappointing videogames I have ever played. On it's own merits, Hellgate would just be completely mediocre and dreadfully dull, but due to it's infamous production history, developer troubles, and distinguished pedigree, the game manages to underwhelm at every possible facet of play.
Now, thanks to a public IP struggle, and the recent layoffs of all the developers at Flagship Studios, even that pitifully substandard gaming experience is in jeopardy. Give this game a wide berth and just stay away.

The future of this game is doubtful. You may not be able to play it!
From the Hellgate forums on 7/19/2008:
"It is with deep regret that I must announce that Flagship Studios has laid off most employees. However, the core management and founding team members are still at Flagship." said Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios. "The past five years have been an incredible experience for us, but unfortunately, we couldn't sustain the size of the company any longer."

"Due to the current situation, Flagship will not be taking any new subscribers for Hellgate: London, and all current subscriptions will not be billed."

I have played this game and it is fun but a bit clunky and repetitive. I would however like to point out that all developers at Flagship Studios have been laid off in July 2008 and that the current intellectual property ownership of this game is now uncertain or in doubt. What this means to new players is that the extra content patches that were promised on the box and in numerous reviews and on the game's website may or may not come to fruition. Please keep this in mind before purchasing this game.

Hellgate: London started off painfully; the game didn't live up to the expectations of the users or developers and a great deal of bad blood was generated between the two.
Eight months have passed; the game that was reviewed by so many others isn't the game you see available today. With hundreds of user requested and developer promised changes, the core experience has grown, the community has seen new features brought to light and even more content has made its way to users.
The core game is an action role playing game. It's been dubbed an MMORPG - but that's just not the case. There's a full single player game in the box with six classes to play (guardian, blademaster, marksman, engineer, summoner and evoker) as well as FREE TO PLAY online multiplayer - a system very similar to Diablo.
There's also a subscription plan that includes great new content and some subscriber only features like weapons, armor and unique functions.
As of this writing the next evolution in Hellgate: London

This game is pretty fun in tbe beginning(for a few weeks) but after that, i just stopped playing it or played it quite less. Iono, i guess the randomized levels and repetitions are way to similiar that you feel like you've done that already. I know this game is supposed to be repetitive in term of gameplay but I played diablo2 for more than 5 years and i still find the game enjoyable to play even to day.
In tern of graphic-wise, hellgate has some good gfx. I ran it out on 1650x1080 rez, max setting in dx 9.0, everything looks really nice.
Overall, i give this game a 3/5 stars.

Looking at the "Key Features" list for the game, the following is claimed:
"The RPG Authority - Flagship Studios was founded by the core creators of Diablo, one of the biggest PC gaming franchises in history with over 13 million units sold worldwide - they are the first, last and only voice in the world of action RPGs."
They'll be the first to tell you they made Diablo, and they'll be more than happy to rest on their laurels instead of trying to improve upon something they already made. This game plays exactly like Diablo with a few parts of World of Warcraft thrown in (the worst parts).
"Beyond RPG - Experience new layers to the traditional hack-and-slash forumla by experiencing the action RPG from the first-person perspective and through nontraditional character classes and playstyles."
Changing the viewpoint from which you play a game is not cruise control for innovative. The character classes are also not nontraditional, and neither are the playstyles. You have three choices

Pros:
Graphics = 5/5
Gameplay = 5/5
Downsides: Buggy, had to restart more than once because my character became trapped in a wall or on a rock. The levels all start to look the same very quickly... The layout of the map may vary slighly, but the room look like the same room you have been wandering through the couple hours. The enemy look good and it is a challenging game.
Many compare this to 3D version of Diablo. I think that is fair, like Diablo all the dungeons start to look the same. The monsters only change by variance of colors at times. There is even a reference to Wart in Diablo 2, so the delevopers were obviously influenced by it.
I don't play many games... I finish even fewer, I finished this... Bugs and all... It was a painful experience at times, but it was a pretty fun game... And that is really the important part, just buggy games aggravate me... :)

What an odd game Hellgate is. One the one hand I am terribly dissapointed. On the other hand...I can't stop playing it. I am playing as a marksman. I shall begin with the Pro's.
It has all the things which made Diablo great. A wealth of cool items and awsome stuff you can do with them. You can modify them, enchant them break them down, build them up, level your guns...the list goes on and on. And this is great fun. For a RPG freak like me, I like to be able to maniputlate my character and his gear. You can run and gun like no-bodies buisness. Wandering around an old Tube station and shooting stuff with one eye and watching tv with the other is a great way to kill a few hours. It has the undeniable "much better than doing nothing" quality and so for those of us who have to be doing something with their hands at all times, it works well. However...the cons are pounding on the door and they want in...
So this is what I didnt like.
1) Graphics. I expect better. Much better. People were

I really wanted to like this game. I honestly did. I like FPS games and Diablo II is my favorite game of all time. Surely any integration of the two would be gold, right? No dice...
The missions are repetitive. You think they might get better later in the game but it doesn't happen. You are once again hunting for a bunch of a certain kind of monster or one boss monster.
The scenery/tile sets are repetitive. You think they might get better later in the game but it doesn't happen. Level 2 of an area will be exactly the same as Level 1. You can be at the 6th station and enter an area and be like, "wait, haven't I been here before?".
The items don't get interesting. The item database is also rather small compared with other real RPGs.
The game is still buggy. Even with the latest patch, you can frequently generate a map where the path to where you need to go is blocked by randomly generated objects. Also, if you "get stuck" trying squeeze between things, you automatically get transported back

I bought this despite the tepid reviews because I just wanted a mindless DirectX10 game to mess around with. I have to say that it's better than the reviewers make it out to be.
While the environment and monsters are monotonous and repetitive, and the cut scenes are boring (mostly a narration over an image of an animated book, I kid you not), everything else about the game is what you would expect from the original Diablo developers. The character mechanics are interesting, and the loot system is excellent. The gameplay is well-balanced and engrossing. Normally I hate first person shooters (and have a lukewarm response to action RPGs), but somehow I still enjoy myself in this game.
I'm never going to sing the virtues of this game from the rooftops, but it's a heck of a lot better than the reviews and word of mouth make it out to be.

Awesome, as is to be expected from this team. More proof that Blizzard(c) had nothing to do with the success of Diablo(c), as if WoW gameplay wasn't proof enough. A definite buy.

So, I went into this a bit wary, wondering how they were going to pull off an FPS Diablo in a dark futuristic setting...but I've been very pleasantly surprised!
I really enjoy how they've just basically adapted the Diablo 2 Gift Set character classes into these. For the Templars we have the Blademasters who are the Barbarian and Assassin classes combined while the Guardians are more modern Paladin. Then in the Hunters you have the Marksmen as the updated Amazons and the Engineer is the modern day Druid using this urban environment. At last our Cabalists reincarnate Soreceress into Evokers and Necromancers as Summoners, still using the same elemental forces as ever. It's just a brilliant breath of new life into the classes I fell in love with playing in Diablo 2.

This game has great potential, but does not live up to it. The backstory is confusing, poorly fleshed-out, and can't seem to decide if it is serious or farcical. Gameplay is a great deal of fun at first, but rapidly gets extremely repetitive. In the end I was rushing through it just so as to finish. I will not play it again. It's worth picking up at greatly reduced price just to play for a few hours, but not worth the present-day value.

This game is very much a sequel to diablo 2 but there are some obvious breaks from the diablo series.
The most salient break is that the entire game is in a true 3d world where you can play from the first or third person perspective. This makes for a pretty fun experience but for some rather different gameplay mechanics. You have to combat flying creatures that, as oppposed to the diablo series, actually are above your head! The general style of attacking is also quite different for all charachters in the 3d world; the game plays much more like half life than like a diablo gone 3d. The "hack and slash" of diablo is made much more robust.
There are alot of other less notable differences so ill run through them quickly. Spell damage is based on the items you are holding; this prevents early spells from becoming useless (infact the early spells are normally the most frequently used at later levels). You can imbue items with magical properties at a cost in gold. You can "upgrade" items to
